KATHMANDU, July 12 (Xinhua) -- At least three people have died while many others have been affected by the monsoon-induced flood and landslide across Kathmandu valley on Thursday.

According to police officials, three members of a single family died when they were buried by their own house due to landslide in Changunarayarn municipality in Bhaktapur.

Bhaktapur district, located inside the valley, has been mostly affected due to the flooding caused by the swollen local river following torrential rain since Wednesday night.

Most of the settlements of the district have been inundated while the major road-section of Araniko Highway has also been water-logged. Water has entered to ground floors of hundreds of houses while locals struggle to get out of their houses for works and daily activities. Most of the shops and businesses have remained closed.

Nepal army officials have been mobilized in the scene to rescue the local people and to help them move towards safer locations.

Roads and highways have been obstructed in several parts of the country due to the flooding and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, rainfall will continue for a few days in Kathmandu and in different parts of the country. It urged the general public to remain alert.
