NEW DELHI, July 13 (Xinhua) -- A woman student was killed after her training instructor pushed her from building during a mock drill at college in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said Friday.

Nineteen-year-old N. Logeshwari fell on the concrete ledge of the first floor instead of safety net held by fellow students on ground at her college in Coimbatore, about 508 km west of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

A video recorded by the fellow student shows Logeswari showing signs of anxiety while being prodded and pushed by a trainer who stood behind her on the ledge of second floor.

"The incident took place yesterday at around 4:00 p.m. (local time) when students were shown how to escape during disaster. She suffered injuries after hitting the ledge of the first floor," a police official said. "Although she was immediately taken to hospital but she was declared brought dead."

Police have also registered a case against the college and detained the instructor.

The college administration was yet to issue a statement over the incident.

Reports said the drill was being carried out without obtaining approval from government.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami condoned the girl's death and directed the police and the higher education department to take stringent action against people involved.

Meanwhile, local government has announced a compensation of 7,304 U.S. dollars to the girl's family.
