NAIROBI, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Kenya has named four players in the tennis team for the Africa Youth Championships, which will be held in Algiers, Algeria from July 18-28.
The Kotecha siblings Sheil and Sneha will join Faith Nyabera and Albert Njogu for the trip to North Africa with the top two players making it to the Youth Olympics, which will be held in October in Buenos Aires.
Sheil, who was in the team that played in the 2018 Davis Cup in Nairobi last week, will be depended on to use his experience as Kenya hopes to win the continental title in the discipline.
The four will be part of a 47-athlete Kenya team that will be looking for medals at the Africa Youth Games. Kenya has entered 26 participants in athletics, two beach volleyball teams, nine hockey players and four swimmers.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) announced the team on Thursday, saying financial constraints locked several others out. Kenya had earlier planned to compete in 18 disciplines, but a lack of government sponsorship has forced the national Olympic body to make restrictions.
Retired Kenyan rugby international Humphrey Kayange, will lead the Kenyan team.
The team reported to a residential camp on Tuesday and face an uphill task in emulating their successful performance in Botswana two years ago, where the country claimed 25 medals.
The Africa Youth Championships is organized under the auspices of the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and includes athletes between the ages of 14 and 18.
