BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Wang Yang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met a delegation of people from various sectors in Taiwan, led by former chairman of the Kuomintang party Lien Chan, in Beijing on Friday afternoon.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, called for the earnest implementation of the important speech given by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, during Xi's meeting with the delegation on Friday morning.

Xi's speech analyzed profoundly the situation across the Taiwan Strait, pointed out the right direction for the development of cross-Strait relations, and provided important guidance for compatriots from both sides of the strait to work together to realize Chinese national rejuvenation, said Wang.

"We will work with Taiwan compatriots to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advance the process toward the peaceful reunification of China," said Wang.

Blood is thicker than water, and people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are brothers and sisters who share the bond of kinship, Wang noted.

Taiwan's current Democratic Progressive Party administration has deliberately set up obstacles, but they cannot stop the communication and exchange between compatriots on both sides of the strait, said Wang.

"We are willing to share the development opportunities in the mainland with our Taiwan compatriots first and implement various policies to promote cross-Strait communication and cooperation in economy and culture," said Wang.

Wang also promised to further facilitate Taiwan compatriots to study, start businesses, work and live in the mainland, and provide equal treatment for Taiwanese people and businesses in the mainland step by step.

Lien said the Chinese cultural and national identity is deeply rooted in the hearts of Taiwan compatriots, and the current unstable situation across the Taiwan Strait and potential dangers have worried people who are concerned with the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.

Lien called on all Chinese to strive together for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and national rejuvenation.
