Pentagon confirms death of U.S. airman

WASHINGTON, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The Pentagon on Friday confirmed the death of an airman who had been injured in a non-combat incident in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The soldier, 26, died on Thursday at a regional medical center in Germany from injuries "sustained in a non-combat related incident" on Sunday at Al Dhafra Air Base of the UAE, said the Pentagon in a statement.

The service member was supporting the Operation Inherent Resolve and was assigned to the 4th Civil Engineer Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in the U.S. state of North Carolina.

No further details about the incident have been given in the statement.

The Operation Inherent Resolve was the U.S.-led military campaign against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
