NEW YORK, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Jean-Eric Vergne from the Chinese-based team Techeetah won the final race of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in New York on Sunday, also claiming the individual crown for the season.

The French ex-Formula One driver joined Techeetah in the previous season and finished first in four different races this year.

The ABB FIA Formula E Championship is the world's first fully-electric international single-seater street racing series.

Lucas Di Grassi and Daniel Abt from the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team, finished second and third on Sunday. Audi Sport also won the season's team championship with a two-point lead over Techeetah. The double-header season finale took place on Saturday and Sunday in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Chinese racing driver Ma Qinghua competed for the NIO Formula E Team on Sunday and finished in 13th place. It marked Ma's second race appearance this season as the team's reserve driver.

Sunday was the last racing day for the first generation of Formula E cars. The second generation cars, designed to be used for the next three seasons, will make their debut in the 2018/19 season.
