NEW DELHI, July 16 (Xinhua) -- India and Iran held their 15th round of foreign office consultations in New Delhi on Monday.

The Indian side was led by Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale, while Iranian delegation was led by visiting Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi.

The meeting assumed significance even as it took place ahead of the first set of U.S.' sanctions on Iran, kicking in on Aug. 6.

According to a statement issued by external affairs ministry, both the sides reviewed and positively assessed the progress in implementation of decisions taken during the state visit of the President of Iran to India in February this year, especially for enhancing connectivity and strengthening cooperation in trade and economic issues and in the promotion of people-to-people exchanges.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the efforts being made by various parties to address issues that have arisen over the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or the Iran's nuclear deal reached out with P5 + 1 (United States).

It was agreed to maintain the momentum of mutually beneficial multifaceted bilateral cooperation and exchanges between the two sides and to hold the next round of joint commission meeting at the level of external affairs minister in November 2018 in Iran.
