BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.39 percent to close at 2,787.26 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.97 percent lower at 9,195.24 points.
Daily combined turnover stood at 337.4 billion yuan (about 50.3 billion U.S. dollars), expanding from 308.6 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Losers outnumbered gainers by 826 to 473 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1339 to 590 in Shenzhen.
Fiber and aircraft manufacturers led the losses, with Beijing TRS Information Technology declining by the daily limit of 10 percent to end at 12.86 yuan.
Electricity and textile companies showed strong performance, rising 1.6 percent and 1.33 percent respectively. Huadian Power International saw a 7.73-percent increase to close at 4.46 yuan.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was down 0.85 percent to close at 1,607.88 points Wednesday.
