JAKARTA, July 19 (Xinhua) -- A shallow quake with a magnitude of 5.8 jolted East Java province in western parts of Indonesia on Thursday, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.
The quake struck at 19:23 p.m. Jakarta time (1223 GMT) with epicenter at 161 km southeast of Malang district of the province and depth at 10 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua over phone.
Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on vulnerable quake-affected areas so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
