3 killed after police car chase in eastern Finland

HELSINKI, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Three people died on Thursday after a car crashed into oncoming traffic flow following a police chase in Mantyharju, eastern Finland, Local media reported.

When the police were pursuing the car, which was driven by a suspected drunk driver, it crashed into the oncoming traffic and hit two other cars, said Finnish national broadcaster Yle.

The suspected drunk driver and two others in one of the other struck vehicles were dead. Two people in a third car were sent to hospital.

Road 381, where the accident took place, was closed temporarily, and the police redirected traffic to an alternative route. The road will reopen on Thursday night, according to the police.
