BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Brunei is set to improve local tour guides' Chinese language (Mandarin) skills to attract more Chinese tourists into the country, local daily the Borneo Bulletin reported on Thursday.

The latest initiative in this regard is the "Chinese Language Training for Chinese Tour Guide Teachers" workshop, currently organised by Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) in cooperation with the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).

According to the report, the three-day program seeks to improve the participants' Chinese Language proficiency and guiding techniques when dealing with Chinese tourists, and is anticipated to open up job opportunities for local youth.

Brunei is the first ASEAN member country to be selected for implementation of this ACC flagship project for the region. The training is conducted in view of the increasing year-on-year influx of tourists from China, which is one of the main sources of tourist arrivals to Brunei and the second-highest source of tourist arrivals by air.
