LOS ANGELES, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Police in Los Angeles arrested a suspect gunman after a three-hour standoff at a local grocery store on Saturday, during which a woman was killed, said authorities.

The man, 28, was in custody after he went out of the Silver Lake Trader Joe's store and surrendered to the police. Multiple hostages in the store were then released.

The incident began with a family dispute in which the man shot his grandmother and another woman, according to the City News Service, a local news outlet. The man was located by the police after he fled the scene in Newton Division and a pursuit ensued.

At the end, the man crashed his vehicle and later ran into the store, where a woman was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at scene, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said.

Charleo Egland, the man's cousin, told the City News Service that she didn't know why the man shot his grandmother but added that her grandmother didn't want the man's girlfriend in the house. The 78-year-old victim was so far "holding her own" after surgery.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti rushed to the scene and later tweeted that "our hearts break for the victim killed at the #SilverLake #TraderJoes and their loved ones."

LAPD said an investigation is still underway and has not released the identity of the female victim.
