JAKARTA, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is to install Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) in venues for weather-dependent sports to ensure the event's success, the agency's chairperson said here on Sunday.

"The AWS instruments would support the Asian Games by providing detailed information in 16 venues located in Jakarta and Palembang," head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said, referring to host cities of the 18th Asiad themed "Energy of Asia" starting next month.

Venues earmarked for AWS installment were ones used for sports that relied on particular weather conditions, such as paragliding, she added.

Besides the planned installment of AWS, the Indonesian weather agency would also provide the mapping of micro-scaled weather prediction around the Asiad venues.

She said the detailed weather maps around the venues were capable of predicting developing weather conditions up to district regions where the venues are located.

Over 11,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions are scheduled to take part in the 18th Asian Games from August 18 to September 2, competing in 40 sports in the two Indonesian cities.
