NEW DELHI, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Post-mortem report of 28-year Akbar Khan, who was lynched by cow vigilantes in India's western state of Rajasthan, said that he died of shock and injuries from a "blunt weapon or object," officials said Tuesday.

Khan was attacked on Friday by a group of cow vigilantes near Lalawandi village of Ramgarh in Alwar district, about 175 km east of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan.

Khan was beaten with sticks and stones and later died from his injuries early Saturday.

Reports said it took three hours for the police to take Khan to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

"There were injuries on the body. Internal bleeding leads to the death," local media quoted Dr. Rajeev Gupta, one of the doctors who performed the autopsy, as saying.

"The injuries were caused by a blunt weapon or object. There were seven to eight fractures on his body," the report says.

Authorities have ordered a probe into the delay by the police in taking him to hospital.

The killing of the man in the fresh mob violence and cow vigilantism has evoked a country wide outrage.

The fresh lynching comes four days after India's Supreme Court terms mob lynchings as "horrendous acts of mobocracy" and said in a democracy, mobocracy can't be allowed.

The top court urged the Indian parliament to consider enacting a new penal provision to deal with mob violence and provide deterrent punishment to offenders.

There has been an increase in the cases of mob lynching in India either in the name of cow protection or on the rumours of child lifting.

According to the official data between 2014 and March 2018, in 40 cases of mob lynching across the country, 45 persons were killed. The ministry says 217 persons had been arrested in these cases.
