BRASILIA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's tax revenue rose 2.01 percent in June compared to the same period a year ago, Brazilian Department of Federal Revenue said on Tuesday.

The country collected almost 110.85 billion reais (about 29.64 billion U.S. dollars) in federal taxes in June, the largest amount for the month since 2015.

According to the tax agency, June marked the eighth consecutive month of Brazil's federal revenue year-on-year growth.

In the first half of 2018, Brazil's tax collection amounted to 714.25 billion reais (190.98 billion U.S. dollars), up 6.88 percent year-on-year.

However, Claudemir Malaquias, the department's head of tax and customs studies, said the country's earnings were hit by the 11-day truck drivers' strike in late May.

The collection of the Industrialized Products Tax (IPI) in June fell 14.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

Consequences of the strike would last in the coming months, Malaquias added.

Tax revenue is key to help the Brazilian government to meet its fiscal targets.

Brazil's public deficit is currently 159 billion (42.51 billion U.S. dollars).
