6.1-magnitude quake hits off east Indonesia's Flores

JAKARTA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- An 6.1-magnitude earthquake rocked off east Indonesia's Flores Island early Sunday, the Indonesian Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency said. No casualties or damage have been reported so far.

The quake struck at 01:07 local time. The epicenter was 115 km Northwest of East Nusa Tenggara's East Flores Regency with a depth of 596 km under the sea.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) put the magnitude at 6.0 with a depth of 578.5 km.

The Indonesian Meteorological and Geophysics Agency said there was no potential for tsunami.

Indonesia sits on the so-called Pacific "Ring of Fire" where several tectonic plates meet, making it vulnerable to frequent earthquakes.
