DHAKA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tens of thousands of students returned to the roads and streets in parts of Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Wednesday in protest over deaths of their pals in a tragic incident of reckless driving.
Like previous three days, the students blocked roads and streets despite the government's assurance to look into their demands including safe roads.
TV footage shows students stage demonstrations at many key road intersections chanting slogans, "We demand justice."
Two students died on the spot, while another nine of the Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were injured and rushed to a hospital as they were run over by a bus on the highway linking Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with the center of Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.
Law enforcers already detained two drivers and their two assistants responsible for the accident which occurred due to a mad race between them.
After an emergency meeting with all relevant stakeholders including representative of transport owners and workers, Bangladeshi Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan urged the students to return to normalcy.
He said 309 road vehicles, mostly buses, were vandalized during the three days of protests since Sunday.
Public sufferings in Dhaka Wednesday mounted as a section of owners kept their buses off the streets.
Many commuters were seen to wait for hours at different stations or resort to walking to their destinations.
