TOKYO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed mixed Friday as buying triggered by robust earnings reports of Japanese companies was offset by selling on renewed trade tensions.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 12.65 points, or 0.06 percent, from Thursday at 22,525.18.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 9.51 points, or 0.54 percent, lower at 1,742.58.
Trading volume on the main section came to 1,399.49 million shares, down from Thursday's 1,642.42 million shares.
Among all shares listed on the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancers 1,609 to 435, with 59 ending the day unchanged.
Gainers were led by precision instrument, oil and coal product, and mining issues, while decliners were led by food, marine transportation and bank issues.
The day's turnover was around 2,326.4 billion yen (20.82 billion U.S. dollars).
