BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese online bulk product discounter, Pinduoduo, was asked to intensify its management over shop owners and verify that products sold on its site are authentic after talking with the country's market regulators Thursday.

"Conniving at or even supporting the sale of counterfeit products is a legal red line that no online shopping platform can cross," said a senior official with the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).

The SAMR official required Pinduoduo to cooperate with the investigation of market regulators at various levels, strengthen supervision and provide information about online shop owners suspected of selling counterfeit goods on the platform.

The online group discounter was investigated starting Wednesday over allegations of counterfeit goods being traded at the platform.

"Pinduoduo will solve problems by standing in consumers' shoes and will rectify the problems in earnest," said Huang Zheng, chairman of the board of Pinduoduo. He promised that Pinduoduo would take the initiative and be cooperative in assisting market inspectors with their work and would not shirk its responsibility.

Founded in 2015, the Shanghai-based Pinduoduo is a third-party e-commerce platform with over 300 million active users. It sells discounted products in bulk quantities. It debuted on the Nasdaq stock exchange on July 26.
