BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Brunei Darussalam Cycling Federation will organise its first-ever cycling race on August 19, local media reported on Saturday.
According to the Borneo Bulletin, the race, which is expected to attract 500 cyclists, is supported by Brunei's Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, and will be divided into two categories - 127km and 100km.
"Over the last few years, Brunei Darussalam has witnessed a growing trend of Bruneians taking up cycling activities, especially now that it is being called a national hobby," an official was quoted as saying by the Borneo Bulletin at a press conference.
Among the objectives of the event are to improve the quality and performance of local riders and to foster closer relationship among the participants, cycling enthusiasts and the organizers as well as to promote cycling as an active and healthy lifestyle among the society in the country.
