LOS ANGELES, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A strong hailstorm hit parts of Colorado on Monday, injuring 14 people and killing two zoo animals, the U.S. media reported on Tuesday.
Some areas in the state saw baseball-sized hail, which prompted an evacuation at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs.
The zoo remained closed on Tuesday. Two birds on exhibit were killed. "One animal was Daisy, a 4-year-old muscovy duck. The other animal was 13-year-old cape vulture, Motswari," the zoo said in a Facebook post.
Five people received hospital care with injuries sustained in the zoo, while nine others were treated on the spot and released, according to Colorado Springs police.
