GAZA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Israeli naval forces opened fire on Saturday at a flotilla which set sail from Gaza for a demonstration at sea against the Israeli blockade, with no injuries reported, local media said.

Gaza's National Committee for Breaking the Siege organized the demonstration, gathering a flotilla of around 40 fishing boats to challenge the Israeli blockade that has been imposed on Gaza since 2007.

The flotilla sailed from Gaza's fishermen dock into the Mediterranean Sea, with around 100 activists on board, including Palestinians who were wounded in the ongoing rallies also known as the "Great March of Return."

Bassam al-Manasrah, spokesman of the committee, said the "sea demonstration" is symbolic amid the ongoing negotiation of a cease-fire agreement by Palestinian factions and mediating parties.

"We tell them we don't accept any truce, cease-fire or solution before getting guarantees to end the unfair siege," he said.

Mahmoud Abu Attaya, a 25-year-old worker from Gaza, was one of the 100 activists. He was injured two months ago in the weekly rallies.

"I was shot in my right leg and the Israeli army arrested me twice after I joined the ships that sailed from Gaza," he said.

"I want to break the siege and travel from the sea of Gaza to any country in the world to treat my wounded leg," he added.
