LONDON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A man, who was killed at a military hardware factory near Salisbury in southern England on Friday afternoon, was a 29-year-old man from Southampton, British police in Wiltshire confirmed on Saturday.

The fire broke out at the Chemring Countermeasures factory, the defense firm, at around 5 p.m. (BST) on Friday after the blast in a flare manufacturing building. The blaze was later extinguished as emergency services contained the incident.

Police said formal identification is yet to take place, although the victim's family has been informed.

A second man caught up in the explosion, a 26-year-old from Pewsey, remains in a serious but stable condition in Salisbury District Hospital.

Wiltshire Police said it was investigating the explosion with health and safety officers, and reassured the public that they faced no further risk.

The firm said it had also launched a "full and immediate" investigation.

The factory produces hardware designed to help protect military ships and aircraft from incoming fire.

The deadly blast took place as Salisbury, which is about six kilometers from the site, deals with the aftermath of a chemical weapons attack that the United Kingdom has blamed on Russia, which denied its role in the incident.

A former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were left fighting for their lives after being exposed to the alleged nerve agent novichok in March. They later recovered.
