Portugal's Evora scoops men's triple jump gold at European Championships

BERLIN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's Nelson Evora seized the gold medal after leaping 17.10 meters in the triple jump final at the European Championships in Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Azerbaijan's Alexis Copello sewed up silver with a jump of 16.93 meters and Greece's Dimitrios Tsiamis came in on the third place with 16.78 meters.

The first edition of the European Championships is a multi-sport event and feature seven sports including aquatics events, rowing, gymnastics, cycling, triathlon and golf in Glasgow and athletics in Berlin.

The competition is running from Aug. 2-12.
