BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- An early strike from Argentine international forward Cristian Pavon gave defending champions Boca Juniors a 1-0 victory over Talleres de Cordoba in their 2018-19 Superliga Argentina opener on Sunday.
The 22-year-old latched onto a headed Brian Montenegro clearance by firing in a low first-time shot from the edge of the box.
Boca are aiming for their third-straight Argentine first division crown and their 34th league title in total.
Meanwhile, Boca's bitter rivals River Plate began their campaign with a goalless draw at Huracan.
In other matches on Sunday, Godoy Cruz beat Estudiantes 1-0, Lanus were held to a 2-2 draw with Defensa y Justicia and Rosario Central won 1-0 at home to Banfield.
