DUBAI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday confiscated more than 60,000 fake products "with well-known brand names" in the Al-Jaraf Industrial Zone in Ajman, UAE's state news agency WAM reported.

The fake products, estimated at a value of 6.2 million dirham (1.68 million U.S. dollars), included shoes, perfumes, clothes, bags and leather, said WAM.

According to the report, the raid came amid the country's efforts to regulate the market and combat commercial fraud.

"All necessary legal actions were taken, and penalties have been imposed on the violators, following the confiscation of counterfeit," said the report.

"The seizure of the counterfeit came in response to a complaint citing the circulation of fake copies of international brands in the Al-Jaraf Industrial Zone," said Majed Al Suwaidi, a senior official at the UAE's Department of Economic Development.

The emirate of Ajman, one of the smallest of the seven sheikhdoms of the UAE, is an hour's drive from Dubai.

The Gulf state, home to one of the biggest commercial port in the region located in Jebel Ali of Dubai, is a major hub for goods, linking Asia with Africa and Europe.
