COPENHAGEN, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tivoli Gardens amusement park marked its 175th anniversary in the Danish capital city of Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Located in central Copenhagen, Tivoli opened its gates for the first time on Aug. 15, 1843 and is the second-oldest operating amusement park in the world.

Tivoli is where Hans Christian Andersen found his inspiration for The Nightingale and is also recognised in the industry as supreme among amusement parks and where Walt Disney scouted for ideas while building Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

The 175th anniversary, celebrated under the heading "The world comes together in Tivoli," was highlighted by a gala performance, which features the premiere of the famous and highly reputable ballet company New York City Ballet.

New York City Ballet will take over the stage in the Tivoli Concert Hall during their five-day visit with 70 of the best dancers in the world, including the Danish principal dancer Ask la Cour, three different programmes and a total of seven performances.

The celebrations also included a 150-meter long parade that is the biggest parade in the history of Tivoli and consists of five fantastic floats, one of which has been designed by Walt Disney World Resort.

Walt Disney World Resort is contributing to the celebration of Tivoli's 175th anniversary by designing a float named "Friendship Garden in Denmark," and featuring characters from Disney's own universe.

The parade illustrates Tivoli's history and the four pillars on which the idea of Tivoli is based: gardens, culture, rides and eateries.

The festive fortnight ends Aug. 25 with Tivoli Copenhagen Phil's Birthday Concert at the Tivoli Concert Hall.
