NAIROBI, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan government on Monday said it has cleared 400 procurement and accounting heads in the ongoing vetting process which was ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta in June.
Government Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe said in a statement issued in Nairobi that the 400 have been cleared in the first phase of the vetting exercise which is nearing the end.
"As of today, 400 officers have been cleared to return to work and resume their duties," Kiraithe added.
Kenyatta on June 1 ordered all procurement and accounting officers of state agencies, departments and parastatals to be vetted afresh.
Kiraithe said the second cohort of public officers to be vetted have already been identified and will be duly notified to provide requisite details.
He said those who will not have been cleared to return to office will be processed in line with existing law, human resource guidelines, and within the tenets of the Fair Administrative Action Act.
Sources said during the process personal information being sought includes their assets, liabilities and previous record of service.
Kenyatta has renewed anti-corruption drive which has led to unprecedented arrests of graft suspects and arraignment in court of senior government officials suspected of involvement in the theft of public resources.
