WARSAW, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Polish Investment and Development Minister Jerzy Kwiecinski said on Monday that in the third quarter of 2018, solid GDP growth should be expected in the region of 4.5-5 percent.

Kwiecinski added that one of the indicators is a Monday report by the Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) concerning industrial production.

"Growth in industrial production of 10.3 percent year on year in July, I see as presaging further growth in the whole economy," Kwiecinski said, adding that the good data are the result of the effective implementation of the government's Strategy for Responsible Development, evidence of which is the growing pace of investment, among other things.

Kwiecinski noted that PLN 330 billion (88 billion U.S. dollars) worth of investments are currently being carried out with the support of EU co-financing, of which the Polish contribution stands at around PLN 130 billion.

"Further public investments are being prepared and launched, including those related to apartment-building and the development of local road networks," the minister observed.

In his assessment, the positive trend will be maintained in the second half of the year. Stablisation of the growth rate at 4.5 or even 5 percent of GDP would be, the minister believed, desirable for the economy.

"On the one hand, it shows that the growth is sustainable, driven by three engines -- consumption, investment and export -- while on the other, it guards against the situation overheating and allows the economy to be maintained on the path of sustainable development," Kwiecinski concluded.
