KIEV, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko has ruled out running for president in the presidential elections next year, local media reported on Tuesday.

In an interview with Ukrainska Pravda online media outlet, Lutsenko said that he wants to "put an end to all the talks" that he will be a candidate for the post of the president.

"I am a part of the team of the current head of the state," Lutsenko said, adding that he is considering an option to participate in the Ukrainian parliamentary elections in October 2019.

Earlier, local media have reported that 53-year-old Lutsenko, who is a long-term ally of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, may participate in the presidential race slated for March 31, 2019.

Lutsenko served as Ukrainian Interior Minister twice -- from 2005 to 2006 and from 2007 to 2010 before being appointed as Ukrainian Prosecutor General in May 2016.
