DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's national airline announced on Thursday that it will start extending its services to international skies with flights to Uganda and Burundi starting next weekend.

Ladislaus Matindi, Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) Managing Director, said in a statement that the national carrier will begin its Bunjumbura and Entebbe routes in Burundi and Uganda on Aug. 26 and 30, respectively.

Matindi said ATCL will also in the fourth quarter of this year begin its routes to Mumbai in India, Bangkok in Thailand and Johannesburg in South Africa.

Ever since he came into power in November 2015, President John Magufuli has repeatedly announced plans by his government to revive the national carrier and turn it into a competitive airline.
