JERUSALEM, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Ministry of Science and Technology on Sunday announced the development of a new treatment that cleans heavy metals and organic pollutants from increasingly polluted rivers and land.

The research, funded by the ministry, was conducted by scientists from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University in central Israel.

The researchers developed a portable device in an innovative manner based on the use of an environmentally friendly mixture of water, organic solvents and metals bonding materials.

Wastewater containing organic pollutants and toxic heavy metals causes pollution and poses a high risk to the environment and health.
