GAZA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Jamie McGoldrick arrived in the Gaza Strip on Monday through the Israeli-controlled Erez crossing point to meet with Hamas officials, according to sources from the movement.

The sources told Xinhua that the meeting discussed the efforts of reaching a truce agreement between the Palestinian factions and Israel in the Gaza Strip in return for easing the Israeli blockade that has been imposed on Gaza since 2007.

Meanwhile, member of Hamas political bureau Hussam Badran announced on Sunday that the internal Palestinian dialogue that was scheduled to resume in Cairo on the truce and reconciliation was postponed for several days.

The announcement came after the official of the Fatah delegation to Egypt Azzam al-Ahmad said Sunday that they informed the security intelligence officials in Cairo that "the final response to the Egyptian paper on reconciliation will be in less than 24 hours."

The official state-run Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted Ahmad as saying from Cairo that "our position is necessary to complete the file of reconciliation first and then we'll move to the file of calm and development projects and relief in the Gaza Strip."

Cairo last week witnessed talks between Egyptian security intelligence services officials and leaders of Palestinian factions, most notably Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since mid-2007.
