JAKARTA, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A 6.2-magnitude earthquake measuring struck off Indonesia's Lombok Island on Tuesday, but it did not trigger a tsunami warning, the meteorology and geophysics agency said.

Lombok island is undergoing relief works after being hit by multi-strong quakes since the end of last month.

The quake rocked at 2:08 p.m. Jakarta time (0708 GMT) with the epicenter 106 km southeast Kupang of East Nusa Tenggara province and a depth of 10 km, Hendra Rahman of the agency said.

"We did not issue a warning as this quake was not potential for tsunami," he told Xinhua.

The epicenter of the quake was in line with prediction of the agency that a future quake was apt to move to the east.

Over 500 people were killed along with a massive infrastructure damage after a series of powerful quakes jolted the favorite tourist island of Lombok since the end of July, according to the national disaster management agency.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake-affected areas called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
