Profile: Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi

BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's President Mokgweetsi Masisi will pay a state visit to China from Aug. 30 to Sept. 5 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping and also attend the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.

It is Masisi's first state visit to China as president of Botswana.

He succeeded Ian Khama as Botswana's president and the president of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in April 2018.

Masisi was appointed Botswana's vice president in November 2014. He became the chairman of the BDP in July 2015 and got re-elected in July 2017

The 56-year-old has served as assistant minister and minister for presidential affairs and public administration, and minister of education and skills development.
