Frenkie de Jong makes debut in Netherlands squad

THE HAGUE, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Frenkie de Jong received a call-up for the national soccer team of the Netherlands for the first time on Friday.

The 21-year-old Ajax midfielder was called up for the friendly against Peru on September 6 in Amsterdam and for the Nations League match against world champions France on September 9 in Paris.

Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman selected Wesley Sneijder for the last time. The 34-year-old Dutch record international announced to quit as international in March this year. The match against Peru is his farewell match and earns him his 134 th cap for the national team.
