BEIJING, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese-produced opera based on a popular Soviet novel will begin a tour of Russia next week, China's National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) said.

The NCPA-commissioned "The Dawns Here Are Quiet" will make its debut at Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg on Sept. 11. After two days of performances, it will move to the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army in Moscow on Sept. 14-15, the NCPA said.

The opera was commissioned in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. Its Russian tour this year is part of the Chinese Culture Festival in Russia.

"The Dawns Here Are Quiet," written by late Russian author Boris Vasilyev, tells a story of patriotism and female heroism during World War II. It was adapted into a film in the 1970s. Having become a household name in China, it was further adapted into a Chinese TV series in 2005.
