KIGALI, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cote d'Ivoire beat Rwanda 2-1 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group H qualifier match played at Kigali regional stadium in Nyamirambo on Sunday.

The Elephants got their first goal in the 45th minute through Jonathan Adjo.

It would have been an avoidable goal had it not been poor goal keeping of Rwandan goal keeper Olivier Kwizera.

The second goal for Cote d'Ivoire came in the 48th minute through Max Alain Gradel.

The hopes for Rwandan side looked dim until the 64th minute when Meddie Kagere scored through a header.

Rwanda needed a win on Sunday to brighten its prospects having lost its first game 2-1 against the Republic of Central Africa in Bangui in the first-leg match played in June last year.

The Rwandan side is now at the bottom of the Group H table because the Republic of Central Africa and Guinea Conakry had already secured 3 points each from their first leg matches. Enditem
