TEHRAN, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The former governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) is under investigation for suspected links to economic corruption cases, Tehran Times daily reported Sunday.

Some other government officials have also been investigated for possible involvement in the corruption cases, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, a Judiciary spokesman, was quoted as saying.

It has become clear that there has been corruption in the turmoil of the foreign currency market, Ejei said.

In late July, Valiollah Seif, former governor of the CBI, was replaced by Abdonnaser Hemmati, after the Iranian rial hit a record low against the U.S. dollar.

The first public court trial over financial corruption was held on Aug. 25, the report said.
