SINGAPORE, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Singapore announced here Tuesday invitation for the public to put forward their recommendations on data protection after the country's worst cyber attack during which the personal information of 1.5 million SingHeath patients was stolen.
Singapore has set up a four-member Committee of Inquiry (COI) to study the case which took place between June 27 and July 4, when the medical information of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and several ministers were among those disclosed.
From now on to the end of next month, members of the public are solicited for written proposals on methods to enhance incident response plans, ways to better protect SingHealth's patient database system, and measures to reduce the risk of such attacks on public sector IT systems, according to a press release issued by the COI.
Those who would put forward their thoughts should also share their personal information, as the COI might ask them to elaborate their ideas at public or private hearings to be held from Sept. 21 to Oct. 5. They can also make clear whether they are willing to appear before the COI for clarifications.
SingHeath is Singapore's largest healthcare group. Founded in 2000, it consists of four public hospitals and five national specialty centers.
