Macedonian police find 50 illegal migrants hidden in vehicle

SKOPJE, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Fifty illegal migrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan were found on Monday hiding in a vehicle, Macedonian police officials reported on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the official report by the police, the illegal migrants were hiding in an Iveco transport vehicle driving in the Gevgelija-Skopje highway near a village called Smokvica.

Police officers said that the driver stopped the vehicle 50 meters from the police patrol and fled the scene.

Four of the migrants, according to the police report, were children.

The migrants were taken to the reception transit center in Gevgelija and the police are taking measures to resolve the case and find the driver.
