PARIS, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- French Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer on Monday announced a plan to cut education ministry's payroll by 1,800 employees next year.

Blanquer said in an interview with the major public radio France Inter that the plan would involve only secondary schools and administrative services, noting that at least 400 administrative posts would be slashed in 2019.

"We will be better organized," without bringing down the supervision level, he said.

The planned jobs cut represents 0.2 percent of the ministry's more than one million employees in total, according to the minister.

Blanquer added the government would increase the ministry's budget by 1.7 percent, largely used to improve the teachers' pay and create more jobs in primary schools.

With the new measures, the French government targets an unprecedented "big rebalancing between primary and secondary schools that we wanted," he said.
