NAIROBI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Olympic and world 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto escaped unhurt on Tuesday night following a road accident near the Eldoret International Airport along the Eldoret-Kapsabet road.

The accident occurred when his luxury SUV rear-ended a tractor, damaging the front left side of Kipruto's car but the star athlete and other occupants escaped unscathed.

Kipruto who added the Commonwealth, African, IAAF Diamond League and IAAF Continental crowns to his expanding portfolio this season, declined to respond to queries by the time of going to press.

Last month the global athletics fraternity was plunged into mourning when Beijing 2015 world champion Nicholas Bett perished on the same road at Sugoi when his SUV hit a bump before rolling several times.
