KHARTOUM, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Sudan and Egypt on Wednesday reaffirmed commitment to cooperation on technical issues concerning the Nile water, official SUNA news agency reported.
At the conference of the Permanent Joint Sudanese-Egyptian Technical Commission for Nile Water that concluded on Wednesday in Khartoum, Khidir Qismal-Sid, Sudan's minister of water resources, irrigation and electricity, reiterated Sudan's firm commitment to the Nile water agreement.
He also voiced support for the activities of the joint commission to overcome all barriers to come, praising the establishment of the Nile water information center and its role in providing important strategic information.
Mohamed Abdel Ati, Egypt's minister of water resources and irrigation, also reiterated the importance of the continuation of technical cooperation regarding the Nile water.
"The Nile water agreement constitutes the corner stone in the relations between the two countries," said Abdel Ati, calling for hydrological studies on better usage of the Nile water.
The commission's 58th session, which began in Khartoum on Sept. 12, discussed issues such as reducing water loss in upper Nile and technical cooperation with the Nile Basin countries.
