PARIS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday reiterated France's commitment to the Mideast peace process and the two-state solution.

During a meeting with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Macron stressed "France's willingness to mobilize itself on the diplomatic field to change a situation that is no longer tenable," his office, the Elysee, said in a statement.

The French head of state reminded that "there is no alternative other than that of the two states," saying that "international parameters as collectively defined must remain our compass."

During talks with Abbas, Macron also noted "the need to do everything possible to improve the humanitarian situation" in Gaza and at the same time guaranteed security for Israelis.

Meanwhile, he denounced "Israeli settlement which has continued and accelerated recent months."

He called on Israel to retreat on plans to destroy Khan AL-Ahmar village, east Jerusalem and to force its evacuation which he said "would be a very serious violation of the international law."
