PARIS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Goals from off-season signings Jose Fonte and Jonathan Ikone earned Lille a 2-1 victory over Nantes in the sixth round match of Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Nailing their fourth win from six matches, Lille moved up to the second place, two points away from defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Fonte, who had played in Chinese Super League before joining Lille, headed home on a corner nine minutes into the match.

Ikone latched onto the Portuguese center half's header, and lashed a left-footed shot into the net from outside the box following a touch to control in the 68th minute.

Kalifa Coulibaly came off the bench to pull one back from close range for Nantes, who sat one point above the relegation zone with only one win so far.

Ikone's former club Montpellier also rode high since the start of the campaign, as they climbed to third after downing Nice 1-0 despite Italian striker Mario Balotelli's return for the latter.

Elsewhere, Saint-Etienne beat Caen 2-1, and Strasbourg moved past Amiens 3-1. Other two matches on Saturday, Angers vs Toulouse and Reims vs Dijon, produced no goals.

PSG aim at extending their perfect winning record at Rennes on Sunday. Lyon are set to put on a high-reel duel with Marseille at home.
