MANAMA, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Bahrain announced on Tuesday the arrest of 15 citizens backed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) for "causing chaos" in a village during Shiite Ashura season.
Ashura takes place on the 10th day of Muharam, the first month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Shiite Muslims commemorate the death of Imam Hussein, grandson of Prophet Mohammed, who was killed and buried in Karbala in 680 A.D.
Investigation revealed the IRGC had financed the violations through "Bahraini terrorists living as fugitives in Iran, mainly the members of the February 14 group," Bahrain's Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Bahrain has been witnessing violence since 2011 by Shiite groups that are involved in bomb attacks and vandalism mainly against police forces.
