Morocco lowers GDP growth forecast to 3.5 pct in 2018

RABAT, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's economic growth will decelerate to 3.5 percent in 2018, down from 4.1 percent in 2017, Moroccan central bank said on Tuesday.

The central bank expects this trend to continue in 2019 with GDP growth down to 3.1 percent, the bank said in a statement following its board's directors third quarterly meeting for the year of 2018.

Agricultural value added would increase by 5.1 percent this year but would decline by 1.6 percent in 2019, the statement said.

As for non-agricultural activities, the bank expected a 3.3 percent growth in 2018 and 3.7 percent in 2019.

Inflation is expected to decelerate in 2018 to reach 2.1 percent and stand at 1.2 percent in 2019, it noted.

Moroccan central bank decided to keep the key rate unchanged at 2.25 percent.
