BISHKEK, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A militant of an international terrorist organization, who was involved in the recruitment of people to Syria, has been detained in Kyrgyzstan, the country's State Committee for National Security said Thursday.

The detainee, a 23-year-old Kyrgyz citizen, has been a member of an international terrorist organization for five years, during which he underwent terrorist training and took part in military operations against Syrian government forces, the committee said in a statement. The statement did not specify the name of the terrorist organization.

Following the orders of the leaders of the terrorist organization, the criminal was engaged in the illegal transfer of recruits to Syria.

A total of over 100 people from countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) were sent to the conflict zones in Syria with his direct participation, according to the committee.

A criminal case has been instituted against the detainee.

According to the latest official figures, 850 Kyrgyz citizens have left for the war in Syria, 150 of whom were killed.
