UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday that China stands for a proper settlement of trade frictions through equal dialogue and consultation, and in accordance with rules and consensus.

Economic globalization should not be a process for some to gain and others to lose, still less should it result in widening gap between the North and the South, Wang said in an address to the United Nations General Assembly.

It is important that countries adapt to the trend of economic globalization, and see to it that such a process is open, inclusive, balanced and win-win to deliver benefits to all, he said.

The top Chinese diplomat pointed out that international trade is complementary and win-win by nature. It should not be a zero-sum game in which one gains at the expense of others, and no one should be allowed to place its own interests above the interests of others.

Protectionism will eventually hurt oneself, and unilateral moves will bring damage to all, Wang added.

Regarding trade frictions, Wang said China will not be blackmailed or yield to pressure.

China has taken steps not just to defend its own legitimate rights and interests, but also to uphold the free trade system and international rules and order for the benefit of global recovery and the common interests of all countries, he said.
